Welcome to Year 4.
The teachers in Year 4 are Mr Sandell (Class 4), Miss Whitehead (Class 5 and Year Leader) and Mrs Plumtree (Class 6).
We also have 4 teaching assistants. Mrs Percy works in Class 4 and Mrs O' Sullivan works in Class 6, whilst Mrs Tarry and Mrs Webb will be working in all three classes during the week.
Our first term's topic is the Ancient Egyptians, which is really interesting and exciting. One of the highlights will be our Ancient Egyptian Day, when we work alongside a company called Portals to the Past to re-create a day in Egyptian times.
In Science, we will be studying electricity and making our own circuits, whilst in D.T. we will make our own pop-up Christmas books.
Thank you for sending in all the lovely postcards from your holidays. We have used them for our first Literacy topic and they are now on display in the main corridor.
This term our P.E. lessons will usually be on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Whenever possible, we try to keep P.E. on those days, however, sometimes we do need to change it. For this reason, we suggest that the children bring in their P.E. kits on a Monday and then take them home on a Friday.
For indoor P.E. children will need a white or a red t-shirt and a pair of shorts.
For outdoor P.E. children will need a white or red t-shirt and a pair of shorts, socks and trainers. They should also make sure they have their water bottle in school so that we can take it out with us. During the colder weather they will also need a warm top and tracksuit bottoms.
Each week we will set 3 pieces of homework - English, Maths and Spellings. The homework will help the children consolidate or extend work that they have been doing in class. We also request that you listen to your child read for 10 minutes 5 times a week and ask them questions about what they have read.
English and Spelling home learning is set on a Wednesday and Maths on a Thursday. All homework is then due back in on the following Monday morning. As we are trying to develop the children's independence skills, it will be their responsibility to hand the work in on time.
