Junior Duke Awards

The Junior Duke Award is a programme designed to develop children’s independence, life skills and sense of responsibility. Throughout the academic year, students take part in a series of challenges that encourage resilience, confidence and self‑motivation. Each year, students work towards a different level of the Award.

The programme is open to all children who wish to participate. Most challenges are completed at home, supported by a few activities in school. There are 14 challenges in total, and children need to complete a set number to achieve their Award. Every challenge must be signed off by a parent/guardian, teacher, coach or Junior Duke leader, and children are encouraged to reflect on the skills they have developed.

Many students speak proudly about their Junior Duke experience. They often report a stronger sense of community, deeper connections with family members and a feeling of belonging through shared activities. When a level is completed, children receive a well‑earned certificate and badge. In addition, a few students (around five or six) will be selected for special recognition and awarded vouchers for the most outstanding Junior Duke achievements.

Children are encouraged to complete their challenges by the end of the school year. If their online profile is not finished in time, they may continue into the following year—except for those in Year 6, who must complete their Award before leaving the school.
