SPaG
SPaG Test
SPaG stands for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
The spelling paper tests the pupils on 20 spellings chosen to cover the curriculum spelling rules and patterns taught in school and some of the statutory Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 word lists.
The punctuation and grammar paper covers all other areas, from the correct use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and word classes, through to the use of active and passive voice, formality of language and progressive and perfect tenses.
There will be a variety of different question style, such as circling the nouns or verbs in a given sentence or ticking the correctly punctuated sentence. When pupils are asked to rewrite sentences, the emphasis is not only on the correct word order, but also the correct spelling and punctuation.
Children are given 45 minutes to complete the SPaG paper, while the spelling test takes approximately 20 minutes to administer and complete.
